About Us

Margazhi in San Francisco is an "Open-For-All Artists" Festival organized by Swathi Lakshmanan, Founder | Director, National Ethnic Arts, Non-Profit 501 (c)(3) tax exempt.
The festival was started as a souvenir of the Chennai Margazhi Season with the sounds of Music, Musical instruments and dance to spread along and for those who miss Chennai especially during the Margazhi, here we thought to recreate as much experience as we can. Chennai and Margazhi brings so many memories and rings a lot of bells "actual bells" inside the head. Like of example, early morning processions on the streets, singing thiruppavai at the temples, big big color kolams at everybody's house, puliyogare and thayir sadham prasadhams, music and dance kutcherys in all the sabha, sabha hoppings, etc., etc., etc.,
All these were only a flight away or a few stops aways for most us until the Pandemic hit. But then we all were left with 4 walls and no socialization, thats when the Margazhi in san Francisco started heating up to socialize, to kutchery hop, to share and care, to perform, to have fun like Maragzhi both In-person and virtually.
